I would first like to thank this group for all your helpful posts, questions and comments all pertaining to motherhood. Because of this group, I was able to find an amazing postpartum nanny (sanhoo, sanwoo) for my second child. I had no idea there even was such a service as a sanhoo (산후조리) and wish so badly I had this during my first child. I went through a very long and difficult postpartum depression during my first and to any new mothers and even seasoned ones, that I truly would recommend trying to get a sanhoo.
I know sanhoo is a very pricey and expensive service that might not be financially viable for some, but I took it as an investment for my mental and physical well being for my second child. I wanted to make sure I didn’t go through postpartum depression or anxiety that may have manifested into something far worse. We don’t have any family to help throughout the week and weekends, whether because of work or because they are living out of state. But even if any mothers have family members that can help, having a sanhoo can still help tremendously since they are professionals and will take over to help both day and night while you recover from childbirth.
I went through the infamous Mindy 이모님 from HeyMama located in OC, and I had the honor of receiving care from her sister Jackie 이모님. Jackie 이모님 is built different than any Korean woman I have met. She is athletic, 씩씩해, very optimistic, funny and makes you feel safe, like she will always be that strong pillar to lean on when things get rough. Apart from the infamous cooking skills that all HeyMama 이모님s are famous for, she literally became family during her stay here. I have a stage 5 clinger-velcro toddler who has one of the most difficult personalities (Jackie 이모님 agrees, she has never met a toddler that bothers their mom as much as mine). But somehow she was able to get along with him and make him open up to her even though her main job was to just take care of my 2nd daughter. She even made separate dishes for my picky eating toddler and played with him as if he was her own 손자. I also see her loving my daughter and falling in love with her each day very sincerely, like a real grandma. The fact that she was able to watch them both at the same time, while cooking and taking care of me was so amazing to watch. She always had to remind me to rest and not do anything, that she got everything handled. I will never forget Jackie 이모님 and she will forever be a part of our family.
I hope this post will help someone who may be having their first child or even to any other seasoned expected mothers to try this service out and to ask for Jackie. They get booked months in advanced so please try to reach out and get a feel of what their services are like as soon as possible.
